Symposium for the Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity
2013 Symposium - Call for Abstracts
The seventh annual Symposium is planned for Monday and Tuesday, April 29 and 30, 2013 in the HUB. The submission of abstracts for the presentations will run from March 1, 2013 through April 1, 2013.
Students in all disciplines — the arts, humanities, sciences, and engineering — present their faculty-mentored projects to audiences of peers, faculty and administrators, as well as have their abstracts published in the Symposium Proceedings. This means there will be:
-
performances of dance, music, theatre
-
readings of creative writing, scripts, poetry
-
oral presentations about all academic disciplines
-
viewings of video and film
-
poster presentations about all disciplines
-
exhibits of drawing, painting, photography, printmaking
-
displays of sculpture, ceramics
— the list goes on and on.
Are you interested? Here is a quick list of the steps you must complete to submit your abstract and participate in the Symposium.
- You must be involved in faculty mentored research, scholarship or creative work. This means you have worked or are working with a faculty member on a research, scholarship or creative project.
- You must submit an abstract describing the project — its specific topic, problem, method of inquiry, summary and conclusions. Abstracts will differ according to disciplines, so work with your faculty mentor while drafting your abstract.
- You must choose the presentation style that best fits your project — oral presentation, poster presentation, performance, exhibit or display. Presentation style will differ from discipline to discipline, so consult with your faculty mentor when choosing how you will present your research or creative project.
- If you are a part of a group presentation, only one abstract needs to be submitted. Include all of the names of the student participants on the submission form. The same rule stands for multiple faculty mentors for a project; please list all of their names one one submission form.
- Your faculty mentor must approve your abstract before submission. Faculty mentors will be asked to verify acceptance.
